Email writing is crucial for the SBI PO exam because it assesses practical communication skills essential in a business environment. The SBI PO Descriptive Test and other Descriptive tests now includes email writing as a core component, reflecting the increased importance of this skill in professional communication. Effectively writing emails demonstrates the ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally, which is vital for interactions with colleagues and customers.

Email ComponentDescription / Example
FromThe sender’s email ID – the email address of the person writing the email.
ToThe receiver’s email ID – the email address of the primary recipient of the email.
DateThe date when the email is written or sent, for example, “5 June, 20xx”.
CC (Carbon Copy)Add people to the email who should receive a visible copy. Their email addresses will be visible to all recipients.
BCC (Blind Carbon Copy)Add people to the email who should receive a copy invisibly. Their email addresses will not be visible to other recipients.
SubjectA brief line stating the reason or purpose for writing the email.
GreetingThe salutation at the beginning of the email, for example, “Dear,” “Respected Friend,” or “Sir.”
Main BodyThe main part of the email message, structured as: Introduction – a brief opening statement; Matter in detail – the core content; Conclusion – closing thoughts or requests.
Complementary CloseA polite closing phrase, such as “Thanks & Regards,” signalling the end of the message politely.
Signature LineThe sender’s name and any additional details such as title, contact information, or designation.
AttachmentsReference files or documents attached to the email to provide additional information or support.
